There are always so many choices when it comes to buying gifts for kids. As a mom, I personally love to purchase toys that have an educational value.

I have a son who is 9 years old. When I think about the different stages of growth, I think about the different toys he had.

When my son was an infant, the educational toys were more about textures, colors and shapes.

Between the ages of 2-4 years old, he loved the Thomas the Train take along sets. I thought they were a good toy, as they taught him about magnets and how to put together train tracks. He also learned a lot about transportation and trains.

The building sets make great toys as well. Kids become young civil engineers. Tinker toys, Lincoln Logs and Legos are all great building toys. I’m especially fond of legos. They teach kids how to follow instructions. And, after they have made their lego model and have played with it, they can then take it apart and make their own designs. This fosters creativity.

I also enjoy the science kits. Kids can learn about electricity, solar power, chemistry, mechanics, gears, and more.

Games are also fun. Memory and strategy games are my favorite.
